How did Ware Shoals get its name?
In the 1800s people would come to this place on the river to sit on the large rocks – or shoals – to picnic, fish, and just generally enjoy nature’s beauty. In time, a Mr. Ware built a gristmill at the site so it became known as Ware’s Shoals, and was eventually shortened to Ware Shoals.
