How is a veil measured?
Place a string or ribbon at this spot on your head, and let the string fall over the front of your face. Do not pull it taught. Measure this length out on a ruler – this is your Front Blusher Length. Then take a string from the same spot on your head and let it fall down to where you’d like the veil to end in the back.
How do I choose a veil length?
Gowns without a train or a short train are gorgeous when paired with a floor length or chapel length veil. As a guide – look for a veil that is slightly longer than the hem or train of your gown. Other beautiful options include birdcage veils or fingertip veils if you’d prefer something a little shorter.
How wide should a veil be?
For most bride’s choosing a short veil, we’d recommend going for the medium (standard) option of 72″ wide unless you wanted it particularly sheer (if so, choose the slim 54″ option) or particularly full and voluminous (if so, choose the full 108″ option).
How long is a veil?
Also known as a sweep veil or full veil, the chapel length veil measures between 90″ and 108″ in length and should fall between 6 to 12 inches past your train or hem.
How long is a floor length veil?
72” – 78”
Floor Length Veil: 72” – 78” As the name indicates, a floor length veil is exactly that: a lovely piece of tulle that is shaped and designed to gracefully touch the floor. When purchased, it will be between 72” and 78”. This style is not ideal for a gown with a train.
Can you cut a veil?
So how do you shorten a wedding veil? A wedding veil can be easily altered by either you or a seamstress. Simply cut off the desired length and then add a lace trim to cover up the raw edges. This is very simple to do either by hand or with a sewing machine.
How long is a royal veil?
A regal or royal cathedral veil can be cut to 450cm or 180 inches. This length is only recommended if you’re planning to wed in a large cathedral.
Do you wear veil at reception?
Many brides choose to wear a wedding veil for at least some portion of the day-whether that’s during your pre-nuptial portrait session, throughout the ceremony, or even until the end of the reception is entirely up to you. After all, if you love your veil, you should wear it for as long as you want.
Can veil length be altered?
The purchased veil was also very simple, just a pencil edge and no embellishments. We were able to shorten her veil to chapel length which worked great with her dress. We have removed headpieces from veils, remade headpieces, shortened veils, removed a blusher or layer and added lace from a mother’s dress.
Can your veil be longer than your train?
Most will say that the cathedral veil should not just match the length of your train but extend at least an additional 5”at least. We suggest wearing it with (at the very minimum) a gown that meets the floor for an extra dramatic affect.
