Do you need fetch lands in Commander?
Fetchlands are by no means necessary to play Commander, but they’ll help you build synergy into certain archetypes, refine your build for high power tables, and unlock the potential of a lands-matter deck.
How many fetch lands are in a Commander deck?
As for how many to include, 4-color decks should play 10 fetchlands, 6 dual lands, and 6 shocklands. 3-color decks should play 9 fetchlands, 3 dual lands, and 3 shock lands. 2-color decks should play 7 fetch lands, 1 dual land, and 1 shock land.
How many lands should you run in Commander?
As a general rule of thumb, you want somewhere between 33 and 42 lands in a Commander deck. Naturally, you want as many special lands as you can find. Lands that generate more than one colour of mana or that have special abilities are always a great shout.

Fetchlands are good for a number of reasons; 1) They help color fix in ways the other available lands in standard at the moment do not. 2) With eternal formats, they are able to search your library for Shocklands, and Dual Lands.

Can you play off color lands in Commander?
No. Lands with basic land types (including basic lands but also things like Stomping Ground) can’t be put in a Commander deck of color identity not corresponding to these basic land types.
