Why is there a catwalk on Grand Haven pier?
30. The ceremony featured a party to celebrate and approximately 1,000 people attended the event. The lights were removed with the catwalk in 2016 when resurfacing of the pier began. The historic catwalk originally was erected 100 years ago to help keepers maneuver the 114-foot pier to tend to the lighthouse.
What is a pier catwalk?
The catwalk is a unique feature of the pier. Before automation the lighthouse keeper used the upper walkway (catwalk) to access the lighthouse in stormy weather. It is elevated, thus making it safer to walk the pier and avoid getting washed away in the storm waves.

Is the Grand Haven pier open at night?
It is a Grand Haven must do. Beautiful at night but it is not open all night. If you are up for it watch the Musical Fountain and then take the boardwalk to the pier for about a mile. It is always windy and 10 degrees cooler so be prepared.

How much does it cost to park at Grand Haven State Park?
To park right at the beach either requires a Mi state park pass or $11-$14 (I can’t remember exactly). You can find free parking along side streets down the road a bit if you don’t mind walking. However, it’s really convenient to park right there. over a year ago.
Who owns the Grand Haven pier?
