Can I fly into RAF Cosford?
RAF Cosford is not currently accepting civilian flights due to a ‘manning problem’.
What is in Hanger 1 at RAF Cosford?
Hangar 1 will be re-opening to visitors throughout August between 11.30am – 5.00pm daily. This hangar is home to the RAF Museum Midlands’s collection of transport and training aircraft, Aero Engines, Art Gallery, History of Cosford, and German Second World War missiles.
Is there a Spitfire at Cosford?
Now RAF Cosford’s Supermarine Spitfire Mk 1 – the oldest Spitfire still in existence – has been given a prestigious award. Is Cosford open to the public?
Both our London and Cosford sites have now reopened following a long closure as part of national Covid-19 restrictions.
Does RAF Cosford have a runway?
The runway at Cosford is only 1,200 yards (1,100 m) in length so most flying displays will either arrive on the day or stay overnight at RAF Shawbury which has a 300 yd (270 m) longer airfield.
Is RAF Cosford still active?
The hospital continued to serve the RAF and local community until it closed in 1977.
Is there a Lancaster bomber at RAF Cosford?
Also our Cosford site has its own Lancaster, albeit a post-war variant. One of the limitations of the Lancaster was its inability to fly at higher (and thus safer) altitudes.
