Are all N scale couplers compatible?
For ease of material exchange, the scale of 1:148 is used for rail to rail gauge. Even though both of these are N scale couplers, they are not compatible with each other.
Does Kadee make N scale couplers?
As you might imagine the N-Scale modeling world was very enthusiastic over this new coupler however, KADEE decided not to offer their new system to other manufacturers. The only place to get it was from KADEE and as a result it didn’t catch on as fast as the Rapido coupler did.

Are Bachmann and Kato couplers compatible?
No, they aren’t. Atlas and Bachmann are interchangeable but Kato can only be used with other Kato cars and engines unless, as others have noted, you replace the couplers.
How do Magne Matic couplers work?
Kadee® Magne-Matic® Couplers are designed so it takes two things to uncouple them: a magnetic uncoupler and slack between the couplers. The uncoupling is accomplished over a magnetic uncoupler, either permanent or electrical, mounted between the rails, under the track, or lowered into the road bed (electrical).
How does a knuckle coupler work?
Today’s standard freight-car coupler is the Type E, a Janney “clasped-hand” device that couples automatically when one or both knuckles are open and cars are pushed together. Upon impact, the knuckle swings into the closed position and a lock drops in place, securing the coupling.
What kind of couplers does Kato use?
Registered. Kato and Micro Trains couplers are compatible. I am 67 and Micro Trains couplers are a little difficult for me to install on locos. On cars with Rapido Couplers I used the Micro Trains trucks with the coupler already installed.
Can Bachmann trains run on Kato track?
Kato Unitrack is very much like EZ Track. The ends of the roadbed correspond with the ends of the rails. The major problem is the connectors between the roadbed sections (not the track itself) are incompatible. This is not a big deal.
How do you install KD couplers?
Place the new Kadee® coupler in position and mark the new screw hole location. Remove the coupler and drill a 3/32” hole. Install new Kadee® coupler using the original screw or one of the supplied #4 x 3/8” screws. Now screw entire truck assembly back on car.
