Does Mountain Hardwear make good sleeping bags?
The Mountain Hardwear Lamina 30 is a standard workhorse sleeping bag. It weighs a half pound or so more than some nicer down bags and doesn’t pack quite as small, but grab one without taking out a loan. It’s also filled with synthetic insulation that won’t clump or lose all its warmth if it gets wet.

Is synthetic or down better for sleeping bag?
In our research, Hydrophobic Down™ is proven to absorb 70% less moisture than untreated down and dries three times faster. When pitted against each other, however, a synthetic bag still outperforms a treated down bag in very wet conditions.
Is synthetic as warm as down?
Down is lighter and weight-for-weight it’s warmer than synthetic insulation. But down fails to insulate when it’s wet. Synthetic insulation, on the other hand, maintains its insulating power in damp conditions.
How long will a synthetic sleeping bag last?
If it’s made of high-quality materials with strong seams and stitches, then that number can be increased to over ten years. With proper care, top-end sleeping bags can last you up to 15 years. But even if you don’t take care of your bag, it will last for at least three years.
